Banque Populaire V new holder of the Jules Verne Trophy
Three and half years since leaving the Keroman yards and CDK Technologie and her subsequent launch in August 2008, the Maxi Banque Populaire V has just hurtled straight into the record book by bagging the Jules Verne Trophy on only her second attempt thanks to a circumnavigation of the globe in 45 days 13 hours 42 minutes 53 seconds, following a virtually faultless course against time and the elements. Having made it into Brest this morning amidst the clamour of hundreds of supporters, Loïck Peyron and the 13 crew have just pulled off an unprecedented achievement, devouring the 29,002 miles of their voyage at an average speed of 26.51 knots, further boosting their reputation as record hunters. Today this performance and this Holy Grail of ocean racing are the fruit of the immense amount of work carried out by an outstanding shore crew and the cohesion of a strong, united group. Congratulations and thanks guys!
